What is UIL?

The UIL contests are designed to motivate students to find new excitement in learning.  The UIL program allows students to work with others in a competitive atmosphere, test their skills and knowledge, and achieve recognition for academic excellence.

How do I get started?

Read the descriptions of the contests available for your grade level.  Information letters and try-out forms will be passed out to students in the fall.  Each student may try out for no more than 3 teams. The contest sponsors will contact students regarding specific try-out information.  Through a series of increasingly selective try-outs, and several rounds of eliminations, a final team of 4 students will be selected for each contest.

What am I required to do if I make the team?

Students who are selected to represent KMB on a UIL Contest Team will be required to attend practices as set by their coach. (Most practices are held before school at 7:45am.) Students are expected to study and practice at home to achieve mastery of their Contest area.  UIL Contest Teams will travel by bus to the District Invitational Meet (out of district) on a Saturday in January for contests and awards.  **Specific dates will be sent out with information letters each fall.**
